Girls Scouts introduce 30 New Badges to help girls excel in life

stembadges

Stem based badges introduced over the summer of 2018 range for ages 5-18. Two new Journey’s are also available to help girls learn about mechanical engineering, robotics, cyber security, environmental advocacy, and space exploration.

The Girls Scouts Research Institute conducted a survey and found many benefits to introducing girls of all ages to Girl Scout and STEM programs.  Some of the benefits outlined in the survey are:

  • Break down stereotypes in perceptions of abilities of men and women in STEM.
  • Girls became more resourceful problem solvers and challenge seekers.
  • Girls increased the appreciation of the importance of STEM in their lives.
  • Girls who participated in Girl Scouts and STEM activities improved leadership skills.
