The Girl Scouts are invited to participate in Memorial Day activities again this year. Last year was the first year Girl Scouts participated in helping with the flag replacements — everyone who participated had a great time, and everyone’s participation was very much appreciated. It would be great if we could get a nice turn out again this year.
Please see below for details.
Thursday, May 25th at 5:15 pm: Flag Replacement & Ceremony
Every year Holliston veterans hold a flag ceremony leading up to Memorial Day. Scouts (and anyone interested) are invited to participate in this ceremony with their families or as a troop.
- Participants should meet at 5:15 pm at the Holliston VFW (310 Woodland St.)
- The veterans will split the group and direct participants to one of two cemeteries to help with the grave dressing (swapping the flags on the veteran’s graves for new ones)
- After all the flags are replaced, everyone helping out will regroup at Lake Grove Cemetery for the burning of the old flags (a cool ceremony for those who aren’t familiar with it)
Scouts should wear their uniforms. This isn’t a drop off event. Girls need to have supervision either by troop leaders or another adult.
We’ll have Memorial Day Flag patches for the Girls participating — if you plan to attend, please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) so I’ll know about how many patches I’ll need (or please email if you have any questions).
Thank you! Hope to see you all there!
